The Apollo 7 command module, flown in 1968 by astronauts Walter Schirra, Jr, Donn Eisele, and Walter Cunningham in the first crewed flight of the Apollo spacecraft. Walter Cunningham lives in Houston and showed up for the dedication. The spacecraft is pretty beat up, so the museum talked about restoring but Cunningham said no, keep it just the way it is. There's nothing protecting this artifact from the public but a rope line. I could feel the door, which is not quite as heavy as a safe but not as light as an aircraft door.
