Here's one of dozens of cicadas I found hanging from a sapling near my place. They are odd looking bugs with black bodies, red eyes, and orange wings. I don't think they can see very well because they don't seem to notice your hand until it gets less than a foot from their face. Whatever they were doing down in their burrow for those seventeen years, it wasn't studying for a degree to be a bug genius.
