There was a jazz festival going on downtown in Sundance Square featuring Boney James. You can see the trompe l'oeil mural of the Chisolm Trail cattle drive on the right. Fort Worth, called Cowtown, shipped a million head of cattle north to Chicago from its stockyards. There are several trompe l'oeil paintings on downtown buildings. My favorite is an entire art deco façade of a fabulous office building painted on the bare brick face of a downtown building. It looks so real and good you have to look three times to realize its fake.
Sundance Square is normally a parking lot but is the site of several festivals in summer, such as the Arts Fest which brings out a good crowd walking the streets and taking in the art with Billy Miner's marguerites in one hand and funnel cakes in the other. Some of the booths can be out there in the ozone. One memorable artiste had a booth showing videotape of herself giving birth in all its messy glory, with the silent crowd gathered around her video monitor with their hands over their mouths. Thanks for sharing.
