The story is that back in WWII some paratroopers were talking about being scared when jumping out of the aircraft. So the one tells the other that to prove that he isn't scared he is going to shout the name of that Indian they saw in the Western movie at the theater the previous night. Out he went, yelling, "GERONIMO!" The rest is history.
