MiG-15 Fagot B

This is a Korean War era Soviet fighter which came as an awful surprise to the propellor-driven P-51s and B-29s which we threw against the North Korean surprise invasion at the beginning of the war. We recovered with F-86s which pretty much polished off the North Korean air force, shooting down ten MiG-15s for each F-86 lost.

For about a year, Russians replaced the lost pilots of North Korea in their MiG battles against the US. Their jets flew North Korean colors and they were supposed to be speaking Korean phrases they memorized when talking on the radio but often in the midst of combat they got excited and blurted out their radio calls in Russian.

This particular jet is more precisely called an F-2, which is Chinese-made version of the MiG-15. A few of these are flying in air shows around the country. I saw one in the Wings Over Houston air show some years back.
